What makes a strong Pinterest pin image

Pinterest is a visual platform, and the quality of your pin image directly affects how often it gets shown. Here are the factors that matter most:

2:3 aspect ratio

The 2:3 ratio (e.g. 1000×1500px) is the Pinterest standard. Taller pins take up more feed space; very tall or very wide images get cropped or down-ranked.

Minimum resolution

Aim for at least 1000×1500 pixels. Smaller images look blurry on high-density screens and signal lower quality to the Pinterest algorithm.

Good brightness

Images that are too dark or washed out perform poorly. Aim for balanced brightness that makes the image easy to read at a glance in a busy feed.

File size under 10MB

Pinterest accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP files up to 20MB, but keeping files under 10MB improves upload speed and compatibility across devices.

FAQ

What makes a good Pinterest pin image?

The strongest pins are tall 2:3 images at least 1000x1500 pixels, with good brightness and contrast and a clear text headline. This checker scores each of those factors and tells you what to fix.

What is the ideal Pinterest pin size and ratio?

Pinterest recommends a 2:3 aspect ratio, ideally 1000x1500 pixels. Taller pins take up more space in the feed; very tall or very wide images can get cropped or down-ranked.

Why is my pin blurry or not showing well?

Usually the image is too small or the wrong shape. Upload a pin that is at least 1000x1500 pixels in a 2:3 ratio, saved as a JPG or PNG under 10MB.

Does Pinterest reject the wrong image size?

Pinterest will still accept off-size images but they tend to perform worse and can be cropped. Matching the 2:3 ratio and recommended resolution gives your pin the best chance.
