Etsy will not save a tag that is over the length limit. These are the limits to write within.

How to choose Etsy tags
Use the generated list as a draft. These six habits decide which tags are worth keeping.
Use all 13 tags
Every empty tag is a search you cannot match. Fill all 13 with phrases that really describe the item.
Use phrases, not single words
"Dainty gold ring" tells Etsy more than "ring", and still fits within 20 characters.
Do not repeat yourself
Etsy already covers plurals and common misspellings, so "ring" and "rings" as two tags wastes one.
Write the way buyers search
"Gift for mom" gets typed. Trade jargon and your own product codes do not.
Cover different angles
Spread tags across what it is, who it is for, the occasion, the style, the color and the material.
Refresh for the season
Swap in occasion tags such as "Christmas gift" a couple of months ahead, then swap them out afterwards.

The tool reads the listing title through Etsy's API and writes tags from that title. It only works with a link to a single product, not a shop or search page. It does not read or copy the tags the listing already has.
Should Etsy tags repeat words from the title?
