How to resize an image for Facebook

A Facebook Page cover photo displays at 820 by 312 pixels on computers and 640 by 360 pixels on phones. Phones show a taller, narrower crop of the same image, so keep text and faces in the centre. The cover preset in this tool makes an 820 by 312 pixel image.
What size should a Facebook post image be?
For a landscape image or a link preview, use 1200 by 630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio. Square images at 1080 by 1080 and vertical images at 1080 by 1350 also display well in the feed. This tool has a preset for the 1200 by 630 landscape size.
What are the dimensions of a Facebook Story?
A Facebook Story is 1080 by 1920 pixels, a 9:16 vertical ratio that fills a phone screen. Leave some space clear at the top and bottom, where Facebook places the profile name and reply bar over the image.
What size should a Facebook ad image be?
For link ads with a landscape image, Meta uses a 1.91:1 ratio, and 1200 by 628 pixels is the standard size, which is the ad preset here. Feed ads can also use 1:1 and 4:5 images, which take up more of the screen on phones. This tool has no preset for those two.
What is the difference between the three resize methods?
Crop to fit fills the exact size and trims what does not fit, with a 9-point grid to choose which part to keep. Fit with padding keeps the whole image and adds white bars to reach the exact size. Fit entire image scales it down without cropping, so the result may be smaller than the preset on one side.
Which image formats can I upload, and what do I get back?
You can upload JPG, PNG or WebP files up to 10 MB. The resized image is always saved as a JPG, so transparent areas in a PNG will not stay transparent. You can resize 2 images a day without an account.
